Postamt - 1957 Moritz Gottschalk - Post office

  Ein Postamt mit Schalter ("Paketannahme" "Postwertzeichen" = Briefmarken), 
Fernsprecher ("Öffentlicher Fernsprecher" = Telefon), 
Briefkasten "Deutsche Post", Wanduhr und Garage für das Postauto.
 
 A post office with a counter (“Parcel Drop-off” and “Postage Stamps”), 
a payphone (“Public Telephone”), 
a “Deutsche Post” mailbox, a wall clock, and a garage for the mail truck.

Ein sehr seltenes Gehäuse.
vor allem habe ich es selten in so gutem Zustand gesehen.
Nicht verbaut oder überstrichen. 
A very rare dollhouse.
Above all, I’ve rarely seen one in such good condition.
It hasn’t been modified or repainted. 
 
 
 
Die Caco-Biegepuppen sind im kleinen Maßstab.
 The Caco bendable dolls are small-scale.
 
 
 Postämter als Form des Kaufladens sind selten.
Ich kenne nur noch die viel später produzierte 
  Post offices as a type of toy store are rare.
I only know of the Modella one produced much later.
 
Die Kinderpostämter waren nämlich nicht im Bereich Puppenhäuser
angesiedelt, sie waren eine Form der Beschäftigungs- und Lernspiele
und damit auch meist aus Pappe.
 
Die Museumsstiftung Post und Telekommunikation 
besitzt rund 450 Kinderpostämter
 überwiegend deutscher Herkunft 
aus der Zeit von 1900 bis zur Gegenwart.
 
In fact, children’s post offices were not part of the dollhouse category;
they were a form of educational game
and were therefore usually made of cardboard.
 
The Museum Foundation for Post and Telecommunications
owns approximately 450 children’s post offices,
mostly of German origin,
dating from 1900 to the present.

Wie alt ist dieser Kaufladen nun?

 In der DDR wurden kaum Herstellerkataloge gedruckt,
ein Effekt der Planwirtschaft,
 denn Werbung war für eine Firma nicht überlebenswichtig.
Das ist für die Datierung sehr schade...
  
Im einzigen Gottschalk-Katalog der Nachkriegszeit,
den ich kenne, von 1952,
 ist kein Postamt,
 aber ein Postauto wird angeboten.
 
Wir sehen aber eine 
Tankstelle mit derselben Uhr und dem Garagentor
dieses Postamts.
Die Bestellnummer ist 
530/2
Das Bestellnummernsystem sieht 1952
500er-Nummern für die Tankstellen, Läden und das Bad vor.
 Das Bad hat die Nr. 500/14,
aber in Sammlungen fnden wir es (später?) auch gemarkt mit
 45/5 und 45/20 
 
Diese Post ist ebenfalls mit der 45 gemarkt:
 45/19 
 
Zwei Jahre später 
sind einige Gottschalk-Kaufläden und Tankstellen, aber auch keine Post.
 
Die Bestellnummer unter dem Siedlungshaus von Gottschalk
ist 46/9 mit demselben runden Gottschalk-Stempel. 
Es wurde in Westdeutschland Ende der Fünfziger angeboten und 
hat die gleiche Basisplatte wie das Postamt,
deshalb datiere ich es auf 1957. 
 
 
 



So how old is this toy store?

In the GDR, manufacturer catalogs were rarely printed,
a consequence of the socialistic economy,
since advertising wasn’t essential for a company’s survival.
That’s a real shame for dating purposes...
  
In the only post-war Gottschalk catalog
I know of, from 1952,
there is no post office,
but a mail truck is offered.
 
However, we see a 
gas station with the same clock and garage door
as this post office.
The order number is 
530/2
The 1952 order numbering system
assigns 500-series numbers to gas stations, stores, and the bathroom.
The bathroom has the number 500/14,
but in collections we also find it (later?) marked with
45/5 and 45/20 
 
This post office is also marked with 45:
45/19
 
Two years later
in the 1954 VH catalog
there are some Gottschalk stores and gas stations, but no post office either.
 
The order number under the Gottschalk settlement house
is 46/9 with the same round Gottschalk stamp. 
It was sold in West Germany in the late 1950s and 
has the same base plate as the post office,
which is why I date it to 1957.

Welche Farben passen zusammen? - Fritz Altmann - Which colours go well together?

 Diese Stube ist selbstgefertigt - 
vielleicht wurde sie auf eine Puppenstube aufgesetzt. 
Ich mag die Atmosphäre, die durch das Blumenfenster
und die mit Holzfolie beklebten Einbauregale geschaffen wird.
Also richten wir sie mal ein.
 
    "Zum Teakholz passen kräftige Farben."
 
Ja, die Holzregale sollen wohl Teakholz darstellen
und das Vorhangrot ist kräftig. 
 
  This room is homemade – 
perhaps it was to be placed on top of a room box. 
I like the atmosphere created by the flower window
and the built-in shelves covered with wood foil.
So let's furnish it.
 
‘Strong colours go well with teak.’
 
Yes, the wooden shelves are probably meant to represent teak wood
and the curtain red is bold. 
 
 
 
 
Ein ruhig wirkender grüner Auslegeteppich bildet die Grundage.
Größer gemusterte Stoffe habe ich auch ausprobiert, sie wirkten zu unruhig.
Das Einbauregal wird ein wenig gefüllt,
genauso wie das Blumenfenster.
An den Wänden eine Uhr und noch ein Bild.
Endlich habe ich mal Platz für ein Wohnzimmer (Altmann-Möbel)
mit einem Klavier.
 
"Aber denken Sie daran, 
dass alle ruhigen Farben größere Flächen einnehmen dürfen
 als die lebhaften Farben." 
   
A calm-looking green carpet sets the tone.
I also tried fabrics with larger patterns, but they seemed too restless.
The built-in shelf is filled a little,
as is the flower window.
On the walls, a clock and another picture.
Finally, I have enough space for a living room (Altmann furniture)
with a piano.

 Oder entscheiden wir uns doch für ein Esszimmer?
Auch die Esszimmermöbel kann ich selten in einer Stube verwenden.

Wandfarben, Teppich, Polsterbezüge und die Holzart der Möbel,
die auch eine wichtige Rolle spielt." 
 
  Or shall we go for a dining room after all?
I can rarely use dining room furniture in a living room either.

Und wie wirkt es mit gelb bezogenen Stühlen?
 
"Nicht mehr als drei beherrschende Farben, 
die einen Farbkontrast ergeben,
in einem Raum zusammenbringen.
Diese Farben machen die besondere Stimmung aus."
 
Hier habe ich jetzt drei beherrschende kontrastierende Farben:
Rot (Vorhang), Gelb (Stühle) und Grün (Teppich) 
 
 And how does it work with yellow chairs?
 
"Don't use more than three dominant colours 
that contrast with each other
in one room.
These colours create a special atmosphere."
 
Here I now have three dominant contrasting colours:
red (curtain), yellow (chairs) and green (carpet). 
   
 
 
 "Haben Sie ruhig Mut zur Farbe."
 
Na gut - vielleicht viele Rottöne?
Passt - aber irgendwie wirkt es zu eng aufgestellt.
 
  ‘Don't be afraid to use colour.’
 
Okay, maybe lots of red tones?
That works, but somehow it seems too cramped, too many furniture pieces.
 
 
 
 Ja, diese Verteilung wirkt leichter.
Schade, dass das Klavier jetzt doch nicht zum Zug kommt. 
 
Sollen wir wirklich beim grünen Teppichboden bleiben?
Vielleicht passt ein roter Untergrund auch schön zu den Stühlen? 
 
 "Moderne Zimmer leben von klaren, leuchtenden Farben."
 
  Yes, this arrangement looks lighter.
It's a shame that the piano won't be used after all. 
 Should we really stick with the green carpet?
Perhaps a red floor would also go well with the chairs?

 Dann kann ich auch mal grüne Polstermöbel einsetzen.
 Doch noch mal das Klavier hervorholen?

Und rot karierte Polstermöbel auf rotem Grund?
 Ach, es ist nicht einfach...
Nein, eine dunkelgrüne Auslegeware sieht eleganter aus
und die schönen Rottöne der Polster und des Vorhangs
werden so besser betont.
Wir bleiben bei Grün.
 
 And red checked upholstered furniture on a red background?
 Oh, it's not easy...
No, dark green carpeting looks more elegant
and the beautiful red tones of the upholstery and curtains
are emphasised better that way.
We'll stick with green.
 
 
 
 
 
"Erlaubt sind natürlich kleine Tupfer anderer Farben,
die der Kombination vielleicht noch den nötigen Pfeffer geben.
Das können Farben im Vorhangmuster sein, ein kleiner Teppich,
eine Lampe oder Sofakissen." 
 
Ich hoffe, das Zubehör auf dem Schreibtisch, in den Regalen
und jetzt noch die Kleidung der Caco-Puppen reicht für
"kleine Tupfer" anderer Farben aus. 
 
 "Of course, small touches of other colours are allowed,
which may add the necessary spice to the combination.
These could be colours in the curtain pattern, a small rug,
a lamp or sofa cushions." 
 
I hope that the accessories on the desk, on the shelves
and now also the clothes of the Caco dolls are sufficient for
‘small touches’ of other colours. 
 
 

Oder betonen wir die Vorhänge doch noch ein wenig
und indem wir die Eltern den korrekten Faltenwurf richten lassen?
Ein Mann, der auf der Leiter balanciert,
während seine Frau ihn dabei beobachtet, 
ist doch ein Eyecatcher...
 
 Or shall we emphasise the curtains a little more
by letting the parents arrange the folds correctly?
A man balancing on a ladder
while his wife watches him 
is certainly an eye-catcher...

1930er Terrassenmöbel - 1930s Patio furniture

  

 Das ist ein Ebay-Konvolut - und es sieht auch tatsächlich aus,
als gehöre alles zusammen und wäre nicht willkürlich zusammengestellt worden. 
Die Beistelltische sehen aus wie die auf der Webseite von Edmund Müller 
und dort werden sie chronologisch als Vorkriegsprodukte eingeordnet.
  This is an eBay lot – and it actually looks as if
everything belongs together and has not been randomly assembled. 
The side tables look like the ones on Edmund Müller's website 
 where they are chronologically classified as pre-war products.

 

 

 Ich habe eine Caho-Puppe, die zeitlich perfekt dazu passt -
und die mich auf die Idee einer Gartenterrasse bzw. eines Gartenlokals brachte,
da wir mehrere Tische, Stühle und Beistelltische haben. 
Dann richten wir die Außengastronomie mal ein. 
  I have a Caho doll that fits in perfectly with this style –
and that gave me the idea of a garden terrace or garden café,
as we have several tables, chairs and side tables. 
Then we'll set up the garden café. 
 

 

 Die Grundplatte war mal die Basis eines Puppenhauses,
mehr ist nicht mehr vorhanden. 
 The base plate was once the foundation of a doll's house.
 
 

 

 Der Platz reicht aus. 
 

 

 Gepflastert wurde die Terrasse mit original Vorkriegslinoleum -
das bei der Renovierung eines Altbaus für mich auf aufgehoben wurde...
  The terrace was paved with original pre-war linoleum,
which was saved for me during the renovation of an old building...
 
 
 
 
Die fehlenden Abgrenzungsleisten fallen nicht auf,
denn dafür habe ich genug alte Blumenkästen.
In einer Gartenwirtschaft darf ein Spielgerät für die Kinder nicht fehlen,
denn die Erwachsenen wollen in Ruhe ihren Kaffee und ihr Bier trinken.
Statt Schaukel oder Karussell sehen wir hier eine Blechwippe. 
 The missing boundary strips are not noticeable,
because I have enough old flower boxes as substitutes.
A garden restaurant needs play equipment for children,
because adults want to drink their coffee and beer in peace.
Instead of a swing or carousel, we see a tin rocker here. 
 
 
 

 

 

 Gäste sind auch da, genauso wie Geschirr.
Then we add tableware and guests. 
 
 

 

 Die Cahos wurden aus anderen Puppenstuben eingeladen,
da werden jetzt dringend mehr gebraucht -
aber sie sind ja so selten auf Verkaufsplattformen zu sehen. 
Aber kleine Puppen aus dieser Zeit,
die Erwachsene und Kinder im Programm haben,
sind als Masse- oder Zelluloidpuppen noch seltener. 
  The Cahos were invited from other dollhouses,
so now more are urgently needed –
but they are so rarely seen on sales platforms. 
However, small dolls by other manufacturers from this period,
which have adults and children in their range,
are even rarer. 

 

 Diese drei Damen sind alles Caho-Modelle -
aber aus verschiedenen Jahren. 
Von Anfang der Dreißiger bis Fünfziger Jahre.

An der frischen Luft darf sogar ein Hund mit in das Lokal.
In the fresh air, even dogs are allowed in the restaurant.
 
 












 Ähnliche Terrassenmöbel im Dachgarten eines anderen Puppenhauses.
Der Hersteller ist unbekannt, war aber wohl aus dem Erzgebirge.
Es könnte natürlich auch Edmund Müller sein...
